Congratulations to Senator Fatima Payman

The team at Afghan Women on The Move are delighted to see Afghan-Australian Fatima Payman take her seat in Parliament.

At just 27 years old, she's the youngest member of the 47th Parliament and the first Afghan-born hijab-wearing senator.

“To see a young woman like Fatima, who like many in our community arrived in Australia as a refugee, elected into parlaiment gives us so much hope for the future,” says AWOTM Director, Maryam Zahid.

“Not only do we now have representation in government, she also serves as a reminder that Australia is a place where we can achieve our dreams. We thank her for her service and wish her every success.”
