About Us

Afghan Women on the Move (AWOTM) supports the health, mental wellbeing, individual growth and development of Afghan and other women of diverse backgrounds in Australia. Given the circumstances of their recent trauma, we are particularly focused on providing practical and mental health support to women who are newly arrived from Afghanistan.

The Journey From Survive To Thrive 🌷

How we support Afghan and multicultural women to thrive in Australia.

  • Dream it: Our Vision

Our vision is to be an organisation based on inclusivity, diversity and centred on the participation of women from multicultural backgrounds in the greater Sydney community and Australia more broadly.

Our dream is to have Afghan and multicultural women finding their voice, independence and fulfilling their aspirations as fully participating, thriving members of Australian society.

  • Build it: Our Mission

Our mission is to empower Afghan and multicultural women in Australia - to ensure all women can access learning, employment and community connections and move forward, especially those suffering from isolation, financial hardship, domestic violence, post traumatic stress and other mental health issues.

We strive to represent and actively advocate for the interests and concerns of women from multicultural backgrounds in Australia.

  • Grow it: What we do

    • Advocate for support and resources for new arrivals to Australia

    • Source learning and employment opportunities for multicultural women

    • Mentor women to assist in their journey to financial independence

    • Assist in healing trauma through art, creative programs and support groups

    • Host cultural events, community activities and networking opportunities

    • Showcase the emerging voice of Afghan women with exhibitions and workshops

Our Goal

Our goal is to support women to find their voice and empower them with the tools and resources they need to feel valued and their differences respected. We are creating the opportunity for women to participate in all aspects of community life.

We provide our Afghan and multicultural women with opportunities to grow and develop in a safe place. We use social engagement, settlement support, art therapy and other forms of healing.
