Founder’s Message

Maryam Zahid

I founded Afghan Women on the Move (AWOTM) out of an earnest desire to build an organisation that seeks to empower the community to make the lives of women better, every day.

Today I feel proud to say that my lofty dream of a quality charity is taking shape. AWOTM is one of the fastest growing platforms of its kind in greater Sydney. We set high standards for ourselves in providing advocacy, social connectivity through social media platforms, settlement and mental health support. I aim to do this with excellent programs and initiatives – living up to our motto:

From Survive To Thrive 🌷

I have always believed that, "Excellence is never an accident; it's always the result of high intention, sincere efforts, intelligent direction, and skillful execution.” These words of wisdom best describe our vision and values.

I am thankful that, over the past four years, our Association has had the opportunity to work with capable and committed partners in women’s empowerment, education, health, emotional support and creativity. We provide a safe platform for the Afghan community in Sydney and beyond.

Through these experiences, our original idea of community empowerment has developed into a deep conviction about the power of philanthropy and supporting those in need. We hope you share in this vision and welcome you to join us as a partner, co-sponsor or volunteer.

Together, we can make a greater impact.
